Qualcomm comes up with advanced technology to speed up the implementation of 5G

Qualcomm has made quite a name for itself over the past years. The tech company is a well-known contender in the market. The multi-national American-based company is known for its innovative solutions. Recently, the tech giant has announced two new products and a set of reference designs which will make it easier for manufacturers to build and users to adopt 5G devices even faster.

Further Details

Qualcomm shared further details on the latest features for the X65 5G Modem-RF system and the Snapdragon 778G Mobile Platform as well as reference designs for Snapdragon X65 and X62 5G M.2. The company claims that the Snapdragon 778G is manufactured with 6nm process technology and provides significantly better overall CPU performance and 40% faster graphics rendering compared to the previous generation.

Arkash Sharma, a chipset product manager for Snapdragon said, “AI takes the wobble out of video stream” Whereas the director of 5G product marketing, Nitin Dhiman, claims improvements to the X65 5G Modem-RF system will allow China to commercialize millimeter wave service and will provide mmWave service in standalone mode for 5G networks.

In a press release, the reference designs will vastly speed up the integration of 5G across various devices and industries. According to Qualcomm, The two modem-RF solutions support spectrum aggregation, global 5G sub-6, and extended-range mmWave, and high power efficiency.

The new reference designs for a plug-and-play M.2 form factor will enable OEMs to deliver high-performance, 5G products across platforms. These designs will reportedly provide an end-to-end solution from the modem to the antenna.

“This is good for the end-users but it also opens up other business models for OEMs because they can develop one piece of hardware and certify it globally,” Dhiman said. “This approach spreads the cost of development across multiple devices.”

The following details were revealed at the 5G Summit and two-day sessions with telecom operators.

Snapdragon 778G 5G Mobile Platform

According to Qualcomm, the new Snapdragon 778G 5G chip offers faster connectivity options and is heavily reliant on artificial intelligence, improving the photo, call, and video quality immensely. The improvement in the voice, as well as video, calls us due to the improved noise suppression capabilities.

Moreover, the chip’s second-generation Qualcomm Sensing Hub integrates a low-power AI processor for certain use cases. The new Snapdragon 778G 5G chip supports Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6/6E, and 5G. The chip is designed to improve gaming experiences and add new features to photos and videos.

There are improvements for gamers as well due to the usage of Variable Rate Shading and Qualcomm Game Quick Touch. The shading feature enables developers to identify and cluster the pixels in different game scenes to decrease GPU workload and safe power while preserving visual fidelity. The quick touch feature offers up to 30% faster input response for touch latency.

The product manager also said that the new chip will give a 30% increase in gameplay while running seamlessly and for longer periods even with less power. The chip uses a triple image signal processor to take three photos or videos at the same time, including wide, ultra-wide, and zoom. Users also can record from three lenses at once.

The chip, in particular, has been designed for premium smartphone manufacturers such as Honor, iQOO, Motorola, OPPO, Realme, and Xiaomi.

Qualcomm has acknowledged the chip shortages and had decided to bring on the 778 from a different foundry to take care of demand at the high tier.

Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF System

The modifications to Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF System build on the fourth-generation 5G modem-to-antenna solutions which were announced in February. This is the first 10 Gigabit 5G and the first 3Gpp release 16 modem-RF systems; the chip design will accelerate the 5G expansion and improve coverage, power efficiency, and performance for users.

Some of the new features include wider support for wider 200 MHz carrier bandwidth in the mmWave spectrum and improved overall efficiency.

The company has said that the upgradable architecture allows users in multiple industries to alter it to their preference or specific needs. Another added plus the architecture gives is the elongated shelf life.
